唐僧師徒四人が一緒に経典を取りに行く中で、沙僧は細かい気配りができる人で、皆の食事や生活を気遣っていた。ある日、彼は大師兄の下着を整理していると、穴が開いているのを見つけて、それを縫い合わせた。次の日、また穴が開いているのを見つけ、再び補修した。三日目も依然として穴が開いており、彼が針と糸を手に取った時、猴哥がやってきて、沙僧を一蹴した。「お前はその穴を縫い合わせるつもりか？俺の尻尾はどこに置けばいいんだ？どこにだ？どこにだ？」
