The Alkanes new protocol launched smart contracts functionality on the Bitcoin network, with volume reaching third.

Alkanes protocol supports WASM-based smart contracts and handles execution and state transitions through an indexing framework, linking on-chain activities to the finality of Bitcoin blocks.

The jinmaa data dashboard shows that Alkanes has become the third largest protocol by daily transaction count on the Bitcoin network, following Runes and BRC-20. Data records indicate that on June 18, Alkanes reached a daily transaction count of 159,700.
