According to PANews, the U.S. Department of Justice is investigating a case involving a former employee of DigitalMint, a Chicago-based company specializing in ransomware negotiation services and cryptocurrency payments. This employee, a ransomware negotiation expert, is accused of entering into secret agreements with hackers and receiving rebates from ransom payments, causing significant harm to the interests of clients. The company stated that this employee was immediately terminated and described the incident as an isolated case.

The investigation by the Department of Justice focuses on whether the negotiator has violated federal laws, including conspiracy, money laundering, and wire fraud. If convicted, this individual could face severe penalties.

DigitalMint, a company that has been operating since 2017, claims to have handled over 2,000 ransomware cases, assisting customers in obtaining decryption keys and preventing the disclosure of stolen data.
