PANews news on January 16th, Marc Andreessen, co-founder of a16z, said in a Hoover Institution podcast that the Department of Government Efficiency (D.O.G.E.) is prioritizing the resumption of offline work for federal employees. He pointed out that the average occupancy rate of federal office buildings in Washington, D.C. is currently only 25%, and many employees only work in the office for one to two days a month, or even two days every two months. Andreessen mentioned that the focus of D.O.G.E. includes optimizing personnel structure, reducing government spending, and streamlining regulations, and he said the team has "very smart ideas" in these areas. He also questioned whether the president has the authority to require federal employees to return to the office and said the current prevalence of remote work poses challenges to work efficiency. Previously, Trump advisors Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy proposed cutting $2 trillion in 'government waste'. According to related reports, only 6% of federal employees regularly work in the office, and Musk pointed out that after deducting security and maintenance personnel, the proportion of employees working full-time in the office may be as low as 1%.
