Media: Apple will introduce an AI robot and a new Siri

Vladimir Sleeper Apple is preparing a major entry into the artificial intelligence market with a range of new devices. Among them are robots, a smart speaker with a screen, cameras for home security, and an upgraded version of Siri, writes Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, citing sources.

According to the journalist, a tabletop robot serving as a virtual companion will appear in 2027 and will become a central element of the company's AI strategy. Next year, a smart speaker will be introduced, which will be part of the basic home devices lineup.

Home security is seen as a promising area for growth. Within this concept, new cameras will form the foundation of a system capable of automating the functions of the home. This approach will make Apple's product ecosystem more "tied" to users, Gurman noted.

All these steps are aimed at restoring the company's image. The latest major project – the Vision Pro headset – has failed in sales, and the design of the most successful devices has not changed for many years. At the same time, Apple is criticized for lagging behind in the field of generative artificial intelligence.

The company is in the early stages of updating its AI software, with management believing that the upcoming lineup of gadgets will help regain leadership and competition with Samsung, Meta, and other players in new segments.

In addition to home devices, Apple is preparing slim iPhones. Their release is expected in 2025. In the longer term, smart glasses, a foldable smartphone, and an updated headset are planned. The company is also developing a large foldable device that combines the functions of a MacBook and an iPad.

Robot

The Apple tabletop robot resembles an iPad mounted on a movable "arm". It can rotate and move, following the user.

The idea of the new device is to give artificial intelligence a more "alive" form than existing solutions. The company anticipates that users will place the device on their desk or kitchen surface and use it for work, content viewing, and organizing their day.

An important feature will be FaceTime. During a call, the screen will be able to automatically track and focus on the participants. Apple is testing the ability to turn the iPhone display into a joystick to control the movement of a robot and show different people or objects in the room during a video call.

A key feature of the bot will be a new version of Siri. It will interact with users throughout the day and more easily remember information.

The idea is for the gadget to behave like a person in the room. The voice assistant will become the central element of the new device's operating system.

Smart Display

As part of the smart home development strategy, a separate smart display is being prepared, with its release scheduled for mid-2026. The device, codenamed J490, is a simplified version of the robot — without the "arm" and conversational Siri.

It is necessary for controlling gadgets in the room: playing music, creating notes, web surfing, video calls. The interface is mainly built around dials and widgets — small software modules that perform specific tasks.

New Siri

The new home devices are based on a revamped architecture of Siri. Developers are creating software code-named Linwood — this will be a completely new "brain" based on large language models.

The software release is scheduled for spring 2026.

"The work we have done on this comprehensive overhaul of Siri has yielded the necessary results. It has allowed us not only to deliver on our promises but also to offer a much larger update than we had anticipated," said Senior Vice President of Software Engineering Craig Federighi at a meeting with employees.

Camera

The camera codenamed J450 is designed for home security, people detection, and task automation. The device will operate on battery power and can function for several months to one year on a single charge.

The gadget is equipped with facial recognition systems and infrared sensors to detect who is present in the room. Apple expects that users will place several units throughout the house to automate processes such as turning off the lights when leaving a room or automatically playing music.

The company also tested a doorbell with facial recognition technology for automatic door opening.

At a meeting with employees, Apple CEO Tim Cook stated that the company "must" win in the field of AI.
