As one of the price gaps in the (BTC) CME futures closes, attention is now focused on the final gap between $84,200 and $85,900 for Bitcoin.
Bitcoin (BTC) price experienced a sharp decline on Monday, falling to $76,700 and completely filling the price gap that occurred after the U.S. presidential elections on November 5th in CME futures.
At the end of February, the BTC price dropped to approximately $78,500 in the CME futures market, only partially filling this gap. The lower limit of the gap formed at that time was $77,400, and since the price did not fall to this level, the gap remained partially open. However, with the recent drop on Monday bringing the price down to $76,700, this gap has now been completely filled.
Why are CME gaps important?
The CME Bitcoin futures market trades daily for 23 hours over six days a week. In contrast, the Bitcoin spot market is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, leading to the formation of price gaps (CME gaps). CME gaps occur when changes in the Bitcoin price during market closures are not reflected in futures market prices, and investors typically expect these gaps to be filled.
According to the research conducted by CoinDesk, while only one of the total 80 CME gaps previously formed remains open, all other gaps have been completely filled over time. Due to this statistic, investors are now paying attention to the latest CME gap, which has not yet been closed and is formed between $84,200 and $85,900.
