OpenAI has poached 4 senior engineers from competitors, including former Tesla Vice President of Software Engineering David Lau.

On July 9, Wired reported that OpenAI has poached 4 senior engineers from competitors TSL, xAI, and Meta, including former Vice President of Software Engineering at TSL, David Lau, who has joined the company's expansion team. The news was shared by OpenAI co-founder and head of the expansion team, Greg Brockman, via an internal Slack message on Tuesday. Joining OpenAI alongside David Lau are Uday Ruddarraju, former Head of Infrastructure Engineering at xAI and X, Infrastructure Engineer Mike Dalton from xAI, and AI researcher Angela Fan from Meta. Both Dalton and Ruddarraju previously worked at Robinhood. At xAI, Ruddarraju and Dalton were involved in building Colossus, a large supercomputer made up of over 200,000 GPUs.
